In Memory of Royland M. Paul
July 26, 1924

While responding to a fire on South Main Street (now 23121 SR 58), firefighter Royland Paul was driving the department's first powered truck, a 1922 Reo.  The truck had an open cab with one soda acid tank.  The truck tipped over, pinning Paul against a tree, causing fatal injuries.

Firefighter Paul was the son of Eliza A. Paul and nephew of Claude D. and Flora E. Gott.  Paul was a veteran of World War I, serving oversees with the signal corp.  Following service to his country, Royland Paul was an employee of the Wellington Telephone Company.
